Lenexa UMC Devotion

LUMC Devotion “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12: 9-13,17-18, 21 What a passage. It wasn’t the original passage I was going to write on, but while reading through this chapter it really stood out to me. I think these verses really summarize a lot of what is important to me in life, which is love and peace. I love, love. February is basically the best month of the year to me. I love seeing pink, purple, and red everywhere. I love all the cheesy Valentines cards and stuffed animals. I love all the heart shaped items. I love seeing people be intentional about love with others. I know a lot of people would prefer to just skip over this holiday, but I really just enjoy soaking it all in. It gives me such joy. However, I know love is more than just heart shaped items and chocolate covered strawberries (although those are great). Love is an action. It’s intentional. It’s deep. Along with loving love, I’m also a big sticker person. I collect stickers wherever I go, and I honestly have too many of them. However, one of my favorite stickers is a simple sentence that reads “Love Will Change the World”. It’s a great reminder of all that is possible through love. & I think love has and will continue to change the world. Let’s live out these verses. I found that the section title for the verses above is labeled “Love in Action” and I find it so fitting. I think this passage in Romans does a great job of outlining how to love, within our lives. We must be sincere. We must cling to what is good. We must be devoted to and honor one another. Live at peace with everyone. Share with people who are in need. Let us not be overcome by evil but let us overcome evil with good. Let’s change the world through love.
