Lenexa UMC Devotion

LUMC Devotion “…He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Then he took a little child and put the child among them; and taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes not me, but the one who sent me.” (Mark 9:35-37) The disciples were disputing with each other on the way to Capernaum. “Who is the greatest?” among the Twelve. Jesus knew there were rumblings in the ranks. He needed to issue, once again, the directive which would guide their lives after he was no longer with them. Humility. Center your lives on the important things. The welfare of the least of these – especially the children. Seeing in every child the face of God. Forget the pressures of the world. Concentrate on the things of life that are most important. Love of God. Love of neighbor. In the pressurized, everyday life of our world, most of us experience in these days, Jesus’ word to his Twelve are a good word for us to have and to hold on this day. The status of life which passes all understanding, and is most worth having, is the assurance of God’s Presence in life – and can be readily seen in the face of a child. We all are a child of God. Welcomed into the all encompassing embrace of endless love, called Grace, which is greater than all our sins, greater than all things of this world. Today, you will meet someone who may need our grace-filled presence in their life in order for them to have hope. Share this good news. Rev.
