Lenexa UMC Devotion
LUMC Devotion “Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Mark 10:15 Last week, we had our first Growing in Grace children’s choir rehearsal in 18 months. Ms. Liesel does a fabulous job directing this group which puts me in a position I don’t find myself in often – I get to sit back and watch and listen and observe the children. We welcomed three new children to the choir this year who range in age from 4-6 and weren’t old enough to sing in the choir when we last met. Go ahead and try to imagine what choir practice is like with young children. Their songs of praise included dinosaur roars and spinning in circles and dancing and joyful giggles. And it was awesome! I had so much fun singing and dancing with the kids and watching them praise God through their words (or sounds) and actions. I’m guessing most of us have heard this scripture before, perhaps on a children’s sabbath, but have you ever really paid attention and watched children receiving the kingdom of God? Every week I get to witness children receiving the kingdom of God and it is truly a remarkable, and often unpredictable, experience. I invite you to start really paying attention to the kids at LUMC and the other kids in your life. Don’t mistake their excitement for distraction or their joy for chaos. Take in their delight and energy, and maybe join in on their dinosaur roars and their dancing. Don’t you want to be that enthusiastic about receiving the kingdom of God? Dear God, we come to you like children, with all their excitement and joy and energy, to praise you. Amen.
