LUMC Devotion Mark 6:31- “Then, because there were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest”. This week I am on vacation, woo! I’m currently traveling around Michigan, stopping at all the beaches, doing all the hikes, & taking in the beauty that is Northern Michigan. It’s wonderful, Michigan & vacation in general. Vacation can be, to me, a time that holds expectations even though it shouldn’t. Expectations of refocusing on life/work, gaining a new perspective, visiting the coolest places, being able to come back with wisdom or clarity, and doing ALL the things. I always feel this great tension between just truly resting and squeezing everything I can into my schedule, because who knows when I’ll get to visit this place again or have time away again? Just me? I don’t know, probably! Haha. But this trip, this vacation I’m on, I’ve really felt the urge to just rest. To yes, take in nature & enjoy that, but not to overwhelm myself. To be at peace, to slow down, & to listen. Life seems to always be moving at such a fast speed all the time, a constant go go go, that I believe I’ve gotten use to that pace & so now, the concept of slowing down seems uncomfortable & almost challenging. I almost don’t know how to rest. Like, what even is rest? However, I know that rest is a great, and holy thing. We are called to rest. So, on that note, I’m going to try figuring out how to rest! I’m going to start with a nap first! But, I challenge you (along with myself) to truly rest, in whatever way is possible for you this week. Find some time to rest. Find some time to be by yourself in a quiet place. You need it.
