Lenexa UMC Devotion
LUMC Devotion Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. -Matthew 28:19-20 If you found a cure for cancer, would you keep it to yourself? Of course not! Good news like that needs to be shared! So, when have you shared the good news about Jesus to someone (other than another LUMC member)? Matthew 28:19-20 is known as “The Great Commission”, calling us to share it with others. I have lots of excuses. Truth is, telling people about my religious beliefs is awkward and hard, so I don’t do it much. I don’t want to push my beliefs onto others. I don’t want to be one of those weirdos standing on the street corner shouting brimstone and fire. A few months ago, Pastor Ezekiel mentioned that we are just one generation from having no Christianity in America! The statistics are clear – America has the highest number of Christians in the world, and Christianity has declined sharply in the last 30 years, but especially in the last 12 years. That is sobering. But what can you and I do to change the tide? We need to pray and pray hard for our country to return to religion. We need to get our neighbors, kids and grandkids to participate in church again. The next generation needs to believe so that their children will grow up believing. We need to wear our t-shirts and bumper stickers with Christian messages. We can encourage others to listen to Christian radio. We need to set a good example of peace, love, and forgiveness so that others see us doing what we say. We can post social media messages about what Jesus has done for US and where we see God at work in our lives. Anne Wilson has a song out right now called “My Jesus”. The chorus says “Let me tell you ‘bout my Jesus!”. That’s what we need to do! Dear Lord – Thank you for wrapping yourself in skin and coming to earth to die for me! Please give me the courage to share my faith with others and give them an open mind to hear it. Amen. -Tammy Shepherd Subscribe to LUMC Devotions Lenexa United Methodist Church | 9138 Caenen Lake Road, [email protected], Lenexa, KS 66215 Unsubscribe [email protected] Update Profile | Constant Contact Data Notice Sent by [email protected] powered by Try email marketing for free today!
