LUMC Friends:

The Health Ministry Team and Staff of Lenexa United Methodist Church have met to determine the best way to do our part in reducing the spread of coronavirus. In following the KC Metro Stay-at-Home order and the Center for Disease Control recommendations, we have cancelled ALL in-person worship, meetings, groups, and activities at LUMC (church and community organizations) through at least May 9, unless the CDC updates the guidelines during that time period. Additionally, the church office is closed while the Stay-at-Home order is in effect, currently through April 23. As the situation continues to develop, we will do our best to keep you updated via email, Facebook, and our website.

The task before us is to still “be the church” in the midst of this time of uncertainty. Plans are continuing to evolve, but here’s what’s happening at present:

• We are livestreaming one worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings. You may access that service on the church’s Facebook page. The service will also be posted on the website, and if you’d prefer to receive CD copies of each video service by mail, you can contact the church office to request them.

• We are utilizing Facebook for outreach to our church members and the broader community. On our Facebook page, you can find links to many resources which you may find helpful during this time that address dealing with anxiety, activities for bored children (or adults), devotions, and more. Each weekday, Mary Clow, Director of Children’s Ministries, will be posting a video with a story or activity geared toward children.

• If you chair an LUMC committee and have business that needs to be conducted, we suggest you do so through email, conference call or other remote means. If you need help setting up any of these methods, let the office know and we will try our best to assist you. If your Sunday school class or other small group wants to meet electronically, you are encouraged to do so as well.

• In addition to continuing the CrossLinks email newsletter, we now send a Daily Devotion via email. If you are not receiving CrossLinks or the Daily Devotion, contact the church office to be added to the distribution list.

• We encourage our members to stay in touch with one another through phone calls, emails, sending cards, etc. It is especially important to remember the elderly in this time of isolation. If you need suggested names or contact information, contact the church office.

• The church still has ongoing expenses during this time. We ask that, if possible, you stay up to date on your giving to the church by mailing in your contribution or by donating online or by text. Information on ways to give can be found at lenexaumc.org/online-giving.

• Even though the church office is currently closed, church staff will be working remotely, monitoring emails and receiving voicemails left on their office phones. They will get back to you as soon as possible. We will also still receive postal mail sent to the church. Feel free to reach out to Pastor Ezekiel, Children’s Director Mary Clow, or Business Administrator Linda Stokes with any specific concerns or needs.

• The Foundations Sunday school class is currently meeting online on Sunday mornings. We encourage other Sunday school classes and small groups to do so as well. There are free online resources that can assist you in this—contact the church office for further information.

• LUMYouth will meet online on Sunday nights, and this year’s confirmation class will meet online on Wednesday. We look forward to when this great class gets confirmed.

• Please keep LUMC, the nation, and the world in your prayers as we navigate this uncharted territory. If you have a personal prayer request, contact Pastor Ezekiel or the prayer chain at prayers@lenexaumc.org.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Ezekiel and the LUMC Staff
