Weekly Newsletter—October 21

new & upcoming at LUMC!
Articles for the November Messenger are due today! Please send all contributions to Lauren Lanigan.
Thursday, October 22 | 6:30 p.m. | Schneeberger Hall
The annual Church Conference is tomorrow. We will conduct the annual business of the church, including voting on the 2021 budget, electing committee members for next year and receiving reports. All professing members of Lenexa UMC have a voice and a vote at a Church Conference. The Church Conference book will be distributed at the meeting and available in the narthex on Sunday. Even if you don’t attend the Church Conference, it’s a great summary of 2020 and forecast of 2021. If you would like a book mailed to you, contact the church office.
Sunday, October 25 | 11:30 a.m. | The Underground
Join us for lunch and pumpkin decorating! All families with kids are invited! RSVP to Mary Clow.
Sunday, November 1 | 4:00–5:30 p.m.
This year, we’re hosting a drive-through carnival for Halloween! Families will drive through the parking lot, stopping at stations for kids to play games from the car for candy and prizes. This is going to be a really fun, socially distant event! Invite your friends!
We’re also in need of donations of individually-wrapped candy and small prizes. Donations can be brought to the church office—or contact Mary Clow to arrange a pickup.

Our Christmas Eve Skit for 5 p.m. will be an interview show with the animals who were at the manger. The structure of the show means we can do it in a safe manner, with only 2 actors on stage at a time who are more than 6 feet apart. There will be limited rehearsals, and memorization is NOT required. If you’re interested in being in the play or reading scripture during the service, please contact Mary Clow.
We are looking for some lovely volunteers who have time during the week from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. We are working on creating a space at church for the youth that will allow a change of scenery for them during their school week! This will look like them coming once or twice a week to the church to work on completing their schoolwork and classes for a few hours. We are working hard to make sure we are complying with all regulations from the experts & making sure this is still a safe option for everyone involved. In order to make this happen, we need volunteers who would love to come and be another adult presence in the room. You don’t have to be great at any subject or even technology, just come be a smiling face! Please email Teila Creekmore or find the form on the LUMC Family Facebook page if you would like to volunteer!
Life Groups is a new program series for the youth where a member of the congregation comes in to teach a life skill (cooking, finances, changing a flat, etc.) once a month! You’ll be leading the session and helping them practice this skill!! Plan to speak & demonstrate for about 20 minutes and allow the youth to practice for around 40 minutes! Please sign up if you have any life skills you’d love to teach the youth!
The Johnson County Food Pantry is accepting all donations. Please bring donations to the gray bins outside of the church office.
