Weekly Newsletter—November 25

new & upcoming at LUMC!
Tuesdays, December 1–December 22 | 7:00 p.m.
You’re invited to join us on a parade of homes. Each home attempts to answer the question: How might a house look for Christmas if it were decorated based on what a Gospel says about the Nativity? The study will be led by Andy Oren using the book Christmas in the Four Gospel Homes by Cynthia M. Campbell. If you don’t yet have a book, you can pick one up in the church office. If you need a book delivered to you, let us know. A $10 donation for the book is suggested, but not required. Contact the church at office@lenexaumc.org if you’re interested in the tour to receive details for the Zoom meetings.
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” —Isaiah 9:2
As we celebrate this season of Advent together, we have an all-ages devotional available for you called “In Light & Darkness” from Illustrated Ministry. For each week in Advent there is a scripture, reflection, discussion questions, and coloring pages. You can view and print the devotional online or pick up a copy in the church office during office hours (weekdays, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.) If you would like a copy mailed to you, please contact the church office at (913) 888-5600 or office@lenexaumc.org
This year’s Advent offering supports Hillcrest Transitional Housing. Hillcrest provides working adults who have lost their homes with three months of housing. By participating in the program, the residents are able to become self-supporting and self-reliant. Lenexa UMC sponsors one apartment which costs approximately $7,000 per year. You may give online or by mailing a check to the church office marked “Advent”.
We have the opportunity to end 2020 on a high note by celebrating the elimination of the debt on the Education Building. We only need $3,364.13 to pay off the loan in full! Let’s start 2021 DEBT-FREE! Any excess funds received will be applied to the kitchen remodel project. We greatly appreciate your support of our church and your generosity.
We have lots of coats, sweatshirts and other lost and found items at the church. They are in a box outside the office or hanging up outside Wesley. If you recognize something, please take it home. Anything left at the end of November will be donated to a local thrift store.
On December 6, the Youth Group will be putting together care packages to send to our lovely college students who are probably really in need of some extra love right now! Help us fill these boxes by donating boxes of individually wrapped snacks, cookies, treats, or anything else you think college students would enjoy. Please drop off all donations in the church office! Thank you so much for supporting them!

“Down to Earth: Light at Christmas”
Isaiah 8:21-22, 9:1–2
For many years, these people knew only darkness and despair because of their depravity. God repeatedly warned them to repent, but, since they rejected Him, He sent the evil Assyrians to attack them. Because these tribes were the furthest north, they were the first to be attacked. But Jesus came as a baby to light the way for those living in darkness. He wants to move you from great gloom to glorious gladness. He wants to move you from deep darkness to the light of life.
Rev. Ezekiel Koech preaching.
Sunday is United Methodist Student Day. The special offering received on United Methodist Student Day provides scholarships and loans for United Methodist college students. You may give online to this special offering or by mailing a check to the church office marked “United Methodist Student Day.”
In-person services are temporarily suspended for everyone’s safety, but that hasn’t stopped us from worshiping together! We livestream the 9:00 and 10:30 services every week on Facebook, then post the videos on our Online Sermons page later that day.
Miss last week’s service?
