TAKE THE READINESS 360 SURVEY!

We are beginning a planning process to identify the needs and desires of our congregation. As a church, we are taking an online survey called Readiness 360. R360 will help us identify and assess our spiritual intensity, dynamic relationships, missional alignment, and cultural openness. We will report back our findings and discover next steps together. Your participation will help in this process.

Each person in your family, including youth, is invited to fill out the survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete. Follow the link below and type in our congregation’s survey code. The survey is open until April 12. If you need help accessing the survey, or don’t have computer access, contact the church office for assistance at (913) 888-5600.

KITCHEN UPDATE

Good news! The budget increase for the kitchen remodel project passed Monday night after a vote during the Church Conference. 30 votes were cast. The tally was 87% yes, 3% no, and 10% abstaining.

What’s Next? The kitchen committee will meet with Kathy Warman, the architect, and Derick, our contractor, to finalize color selections for the countertops, Formica, paint, cabinet front, and flooring. After a final review regarding the HVAC, the permitting process will begin. As of today, we are anticipating a construction start date in May.

LENTEN STUDY
Sundays, February 21–March 28 | 7 p.m.

You are invited to explore the last days of Christ’s life in a Lenten Study using the book Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week by Amy-Jill Levine. The study, moderated by Andy Oren, takes place on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Contact the church office to sign up and get the Zoom link.
EASTER CAR-NIVAL
Sunday, March 28 | 4–5 p.m.

We’re having an Easter Car-Nival on March 28. You can drive through the parking lot and stop at stations for your kids to play games to win prizes and candy. All of the games can be played from your car. Please invite your friends to join us too!

Volunteers and candy donations are needed! If you would like to volunteer to help at the Car-Nival, please contact Mary Clow at Mary.Clow@lenexaumc.org. You can bring donations of individually wrapped candy to the church office. Thank you for your support!

ST. MARY’S FOOD KITCHEN
Friday, April 2

Our next service is April 2. As no surprise, due to the virus, the kitchen continues to be closed, and they are serving cold lunches in a bag at the door. These consist of a lunch meat sandwich, chips, granola or protein bar, fruit or fruit cup, bottle of water, and a dessert. We just have to drop the lunches off at St. Mary’s, and they will pass them out. They have 700–800 people most days, so this will be a tremendous challenge for us, but one we met in October and January. We need volunteers that can prepare hopefully 50 lunches each and bring them to the church on the morning of April 2. They will then be transported to St. Mary’s. Please let Tom Bean know if you can help at (913) 888-2446 or threetnkbean@juno.com. We need to know fairly soon if you can so we can be sure we will have enough. Thank you!

LUMY SPRING RETREAT VOLUNTEERS WANTED!
Friday, April 23–Sunday, April 25

The LUMY Spring Retreat is coming up! There is no overnight part this year. It’ll just be during the day & evening time. But Teila needs your help to make this happen! Please check out the link to sign up & volunteer! The times are broken down throughout the weekend, so you don’t have to stay for the whole weekend/day if you want. Check and see if there are any times that work for you!

Sunday worship

We have returned to in-person worship, with masks required and COVID safety protocols in place. Worship takes place at 9 and 10:30 a.m. both in the sanctuary and via livestream on Facebook for those who are more comfortable worshiping from home.

MARCH 7
3RD SUNDAY IN LENT

“We Preach Crucified Jesus”
1 Corinthians 1:18–25

Today, everything is business—one main marketing strategy— give what the customer wants, satisfy them, and fulfill their needs and aspirations. Thus, businesspeople change products. But Gospel preaching is unique. It remains the same, never changes, and no one can change it.

COMMUNION SUNDAY

We will celebrate Holy Communion on March 7. We will be using prepackaged communion elements during in-person worship. Those worshiping at home can either supply their own bread and juice or pick up prepackaged elements at the church. Elements can be picked up at the church office or during the Dinner’s On Us drive-thru Wednesday, March 3, 5:30–6:30 p.m.

100 DAYS OF PRAYER

Through Easter Sunday, you are invited to join the Great Plains Conference and our bishop in setting apart a sacred and regular time each day during the next 100 days to pray for our nation and a smooth transition of power using “A Prayer in a Time of National Crisis”. Each Wednesday morning there will be a video on our LUMC Facebook page leading you in this prayer:

God of all the ages, in your sight nations rise and fall and pass through times of peril. Now when our land is troubled, be near to judge and save. May leaders be led by your wisdom; may they search your will and see it clearly. If we have turned from your way, reverse our ways and help us to repent. Give us your light and your truth, let them guide us; through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of this world, and our Savior. Amen.

FOOD PANTRY

The food pantry is currently in need of cleaning supplies (laundry soap, liquid dish soap), personal hygiene items (deodorant, toothpaste, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner), baking items (flour, sugar, cake mixes, pancake mix) and basic condiments (ketchup, mustard, salad dressing). Please bring donations to the gray bins outside of the church office.
