Weekly Newsletter—March 24

new & upcoming at LUMC!
We are beginning a planning process to identify the needs and desires of our congregation. As a church, we are taking an online survey called Readiness 360. R360 will help us identify and assess our spiritual intensity, dynamic relationships, missional alignment, and cultural openness. We will report back our findings and discover next steps together. Your participation will help in this process.
Each person in your family, including youth, is invited to fill out the survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete. Follow the link below and type in our congregation’s survey code. The survey is open until April 12. If you need help accessing the survey, or don’t have computer access, contact the church office for assistance at (913) 888-5600.

We’re having an Easter Car-Nival on March 28. You can drive through the parking lot and stop at stations for your kids to play games to win prizes and candy. All of the games can be played from your car. Please invite your friends to join us too!
Volunteers and candy donations are needed! If you would like to volunteer to help at the Car-Nival, please contact Mary Clow at Mary.Clow@lenexaumc.org. You can bring donations of individually wrapped candy to the church office. Thank you for your support!

Celebrate Christ’s resurrection and the coming of spring with songs of praise! Liesel and Mary will be hosting a Facebook Live Easter sing-a-long on April 11. Let us know what your favorite Easter themed songs are on the Facebook event page. We look forward to singing with you!
Friday, April 23–Sunday, April 25
The LUMY Spring Retreat is coming up! There is no overnight part this year. It’ll just be during the day & evening time. But Teila needs your help to make this happen! Please check out the link to sign up & volunteer! The times are broken down throughout the weekend, so you don’t have to stay for the whole weekend/day if you want. Check and see if there are any times that work for you!
Monday, June 21–Friday, June 25 | 9 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
VBS: Knights of North Castle will be June 21–25. Currently, registration is full and we have a waitlist. If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please contact Mary.Clow@lenexaumc.org.
More volunteers for VBS are needed and will allow us to serve more children this summer. Please contact Mary Clow if you are interested in volunteering. Even if you can’t volunteer all five days, we can still use your help!
You are eligible if you meet the following criteria:
• you are a member of Lenexa United Methodist Church
• you have at least a 2.5 GPA or a GED
• you have been accepted to an accredited institution
• you will be a full-time student
• you have not received an LUMC scholarship in the past
In addition to the application, you will need to submit a 300–500 word essay on your post-secondary plans, two letters of recommendation, and an official school transcript. To get your application for the 2021 post-secondary undergraduate scholarships, send an email to Linda.Stokes@lenexaumc.org or Teila.Creekmore@lenexaumc.org, or pick one up in the church office. The application deadline is April 1. These scholarships are made possible through the Lenexa UMC Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Sunday worship
We’ve returned to in-person worship, which takes place in the sanctuary at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m.
Masks are required and COVID safety protocols are in place. If you plan on attending in person, we encourage you to read these protocols at https://lenexaumc.org/covid/.
For those who are more comfortable worshiping from home, we’re also continuing to livestream both the 9 and 10:30 services. Please tune in at facebook.com/LenexaUMC/live!
Missed last week’s service?
“The Triumphal Entry”
Mark 11:1–11
During the most holy week, we are called to stay close to Jesus through prayers and listening to his words. We are to be gentle with ourselves, because the God we love is going to die on the cross. And we are to take care of each other. This might be the week that we need to forgive each other.
God’s Children will participate by waving palm leaves at both worship services.

ongoing events & announcements
Can you help as a greeter or usher during worship? Now that we are back to in-person worship, we have several positions open. Please consider volunteering once a month if you are able to.

Through Easter Sunday, you are invited to join the Great Plains Conference and our bishop in setting apart a sacred and regular time each day during the next 100 days to pray for our nation and a smooth transition of power using “A Prayer in a Time of National Crisis”. Each Wednesday morning there will be a video on our LUMC Facebook page leading you in this prayer:
God of all the ages, in your sight nations rise and fall and pass through times of peril. Now when our land is troubled, be near to judge and save. May leaders be led by your wisdom; may they search your will and see it clearly. If we have turned from your way, reverse our ways and help us to repent. Give us your light and your truth, let them guide us; through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of this world, and our Savior. Amen.
The food pantry is currently in need of cleaning supplies (laundry soap, liquid dish soap), personal hygiene items (deodorant, toothpaste, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner), baking items (flour, sugar, cake mixes, pancake mix) and basic condiments (ketchup, mustard, salad dressing). Please bring donations to the gray bins outside of the church office.
March–April Upper Rooms are here. You may pick one up at the church, or if you would like one mailed to you, contact the church office at (913) 888–5600 or office@lenexaumc.org.
