KITCHEN REMODEL UPDATE
Although it doesn’t feel like any progress is being made toward the kitchen remodel project, there are many tasks being taken care of behind the scenes. Our contractor, Derick Shackelford, has firm numbers from several of his subs, but is still waiting on finals from the electrician and HVAC. Derick has made several on-site visits to the church in the past month and is tweaking a few minor details. This should be the last round of revisions before the permitting process begins. Derick has also set aside a floating block of time so that when the permitting is complete, he will be ready to start our project. This new report may seem old and redundant, but we continue to move forward.

“The Baptism of Jesus”
Mark 1:4–13
Jesus’ baptism marked the beginning of his ministry. Our baptism is also an ordination of sorts. We make vows to serve God and God’s world with love and justice. After Jesus’ baptism, The Holy Spirit took Him into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Our work as baptized Christians won’t be easy either. As we seek to establish God’s justice and peace on earth, we will battle the demons of hatred, racism, sexism, ignorance, oppression, etc.
Rev. Ezekiel Koech preaching.

HUMAN RELATIONS DAY
Next Sunday, January 17, is Human Relations Day. This special offering supports neighborhood ministries and work with at-risk youth. It recognizes the right of all God’s children to realize their potential as human beings in relationship with one another. You may give online at lenexaumc.org/online-giving or by mailing your check marked “Human Relations Day” to the church.
