Weekly Newsletter—January 13, 2020

new & upcoming at LUMC!
The church office will be closed on Monday, January 18 in observance of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday.
Beginning this Sunday through Easter Sunday you are invited to join the Great Plains Conference and our bishop in setting apart a sacred and regular time each day during the next 100 days to pray for our nation and a smooth transition of power using “A Prayer in a Time of National Crisis”. Each Wednesday morning there will be a video on our LUMC Facebook page leading you in this prayer:
God of all the ages, in your sight nations rise and fall and pass through times of peril. Now when our land is troubled, be near to judge and save. May leaders be led by your wisdom; may they search your will and see it clearly. If we have turned from your way, reverse our ways and help us to repent. Give us your light and your truth, let them guide us; through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of this world, and our Savior. Amen.
Sundays | 10–10:30 a.m.

O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing! We had so much fun at our Christmas carol sing-a-long, we’re going to do it again—this time with favorite hymns! Join Liesel on January 24 at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live as we sing and chat about favorite hymns. Let us know what your favorite hymns are in the comment section of the Facebook event, and we will try to include them. This will be a fun evening of singing and fellowship from the comfort of your home!

Sunday worship
In-person services are temporarily suspended for everyone’s safety, but that hasn’t stopped us from worshiping together! We livestream the 9:00 and 10:30 services every week on Facebook, then post the videos on our Online Sermons page later that day.
“Prayer Is the Solution For the Sick Nation”
Matthew 12:23–25; 2 Chronicles 7:14–15
As a nation, we are facing political and pandemic struggles. We must ask ourselves, have we failed to live up to the high calling of God or have we stumbled somewhere? Where did we go wrong? Have we listened to the word of God? We are a divided nation in every way and yet we are supposed to be one nation under God as we always say, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Yes we’re divided in our beliefs, in government, and divided among families and neighbors.
Rev. Ezekiel Koech preaching.
This Sunday is Human Relations Day. This special offering supports neighborhood ministries and work with at-risk youth. It recognizes the right of all God’s children to realize their potential as human beings in relationship with one another. You may give online or by mailing your check marked “Human Relations Day” to the church.
