CONVERSATIONS IN BLACK AND WHITE:
GROWING UP BLACK IN THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Sunday, August 30 | 9:00 a.m.

This Sunday, we will have a panel discussion during worship with Alex Oleson, Paige Foster, Anthony Hygh, and Abby Koech about growing up black in the United Methodist Church. You will recognize each of these outstanding people as they have graced our church with their presence through the years. Join us in worship or via livestream for this important discussion. The worship video can also be watched afterwards on our Facebook page or website.

VFW BLOOD DRIVE
Wednesday, September 16 | 3–7 p.m. | VFW Post 7397 (9550 Pflumm Rd.)

LUMC has had to pass on a fall blood drive, but we want to acknowledge the desperate situation our community is in regarding the critical shortage of blood. Please support Lenexa’s VFW on September 16 by registering to donate. Sign up online with group code EG9S or contact the coordinator, Kira Harsh, at kharsh@cbckc.org or (816) 723–6201. Hopefully, 2021 will bring a near end to this pandemic and allow us to once again host our own blood drives. Please email or call Judy Rose at jrdrose@hotmail.com or (913) 449-9498 with any questions.

DONATIONS NEEDED

On September 27, the youth will be making Snuffle Mats and Cat Hidies to give to the Great Plains SPCA and we need your help! We need wire hangers, t-shirts, cardboard, safety pins, fleece material, & rubber sink mats. If you happen to have any of the items or are willing to purchase some, please feel free to drop them off in the church office or contact Teila.Creekmore@lenexaumc.org and we can arrange a pickup! Thank you!
SPONSOR A PRESCHOOL TEACHER

Church members are invited to “sponsor a preschool teacher” for this school year. Sponsoring a teacher means committing to praying for them and their class throughout the year and putting together a small care package for them each month. The care package should include an encouraging note and a small treat (about $5 value). Contact Mary Clow to sign up.
SUNDAY WORSHIP

AUGUST 30
13TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
“Do Not Show Favoritism”
James 2:1–13

This Scripture shows that they were practicing discrimination against the poorer brothers and sisters. How do you look at others? Do you see them the way that God sees you? Can you see that we are all equal in God’s eyes? Rev. Ezekiel Koech preaching.

In-person worship is back at LUMC. You are invited to join us!

8 a.m. | Worship in the Park at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park by the gazebo
9 a.m. | Contemporary worship in the Sanctuary
10:30 a.m. | Traditional worship in the Sanctuary

Read about the safety protocols we’re observing at https://lenexaumc.org/news/.

WORSHIP IN THE PARK UPDATE
Because of its popularity, Worship in the Park has been extended through September and maybe into October, dependent on the weather. Continue to join us for this great, informal, outdoor worship service on Sunday mornings! at 8am.

The 9:00 and 10:30 services will also be streamed live on Facebook for those who are more comfortable worshiping from home.
Choose the time and place that works best for you!

If you missed last week’s service, watch it on our website now!
