Lenexa United Methodist Church serves the community and the world through these and other ministries:
PEANUTS (People Experiencing A New Understanding Through Service) Work Camps provide opportunities to serve in places of need, to grow in faith and to enjoy the support and fellowship of others campers. There are Green Peanuts (Mid-High Youth) and Peanuts (Senior High Youth) and Mixed Nuts (young adults) and Salty Peanuts (older adults).
Sunflower Elementary School. The congregation has partnered with Sunflower Elementary School, providing tutors, school supplies, gifts for classrooms, and Christmas gifts for Sunflower families living in poverty.
Hillcrest Transitional Housing provides shelter, utilities, food and counseling for homeless families and individuals. The congregation has furnished an apartment and cleans and repairs the apartment and stocks the pantry as a new family is welcomed to ‘our’ apartment every three months.
North Central Multi-Service Center. Lenexa UMC supports the food pantry and emergency fund of the North Central Multi-Service Center, a government agency serving north central Johnson County.
Knitters. Tuesday morning knitters (and crocheters) make prayer shawls and infant hats and booties. Knitter and crocheters meet Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Library. Contact the church office for more information.
Other Outreach Opportunities. Multiple times throughout the year, LUMC youth and adults prepare and servce meals at St. Mary’s Kitchen in Kansas City, KS, Grand Avenue Temple in Kansas City, MO, and Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City, MO.
